Wedding-Car.co.uk day out to Saint James the Great Church in Hanslope
When a good friend of ours, Douglas from 'Elegant Wedding Cars' invited us to visit his village on the open day of
St James the Great Church, we jumped at the chance.
We see many wedding
venues and many churches but only from the outside as the chauffeur of a
wedding car.
Saint James the Great Church Hanslope
The opportunity to view the church during their open weekend
was an opportunity not to be missed, we climbed the tower and during the ascent
we stopped off at the bell ringer’s room …..
Then the Bell room…..
Watching one of the bells in action from the bell room was
incredible (and very loud) …..
Then on to the top …..
it is a long way up but we were rewarded with magnificent views across the
surrounding countryside – we could see Salsey Forest, Olney and even the snow
dome in Milton Keynes.
It was a strange and momentarily worrying sensation when the
bell sounded when we were at the top – the tower moves slightly as the bell swings
which is very noticeable but I guess it does it no harm – it has lasted 600
years so far and it looked in very good condition to me !
It was explained that the spire lost 20ft from its height when
lightning struck about 150 years ago.
It was a very pleasant day out and we had a pleasant drive over to Hanslope in our 1949 Triumph Roadster too :-)
